Conventions of all kinds are becoming more and more widespread. It seems like you could hit one nearly every weekend. And now, people are letting their enthusiasm carry them into starting their own weekend gatherings... but enthusiasm only takes you so far. What really goes into starting and running a con? What are the behind the scenes stories the con's members never hear about? Would anyone do this if they knew what they were in for?

Note: this was inspired by the debacle still unfolding at DashCon, but it's not intended to pile on them. I think it would be fascinating just to hear about all the work and dedication that goes on, and to give people who might be thinking of starting a show some advice about all the little things that they might not hear about beforehand.

Bonus points if you hold this panel in a ball-pit. ;)

Ok, ok... I know, that wasn't cool.. This sounds like a wonderful idea for a panel - Dashcon being just one example of "what can go wrong."
