Winter Is Coming: A Game of Thrones at 20

Postby millerdan2009 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 1:48 am

Hi, all,

Twenty years ago [as of Arisia 2016], George R.R. Martin published what would become his best-received work and a worldwide phenomenon—A Game of Thrones, the first novel in his Song of Ice and Fire series. The first in a planned seven—or eight!—novels, A Game of Thrones was an instant bestseller that ultimately gave rise to a hit series on HBO. However, the series is not without its controversy; the violence in the novels is graphic to say the least, and fans have criticized Martin's pace in writing the series, particularly as the plot of the TV show comes close to where the books have gone. What is the basis for A Game of Thrones' popularity, and will Martin ever complete the series? Come explore these and other questions with Arisia, once winter is already here.

Thanks,

Danny
