100th and 50th anniversaries

Postby swilk » Thu Sep 10, 2015 7:32 pm

It was 100 years ago that Mark Twain';s "The Mysterious Stranger" was published, cobbled together after his death by Albert Bigelow Paine from two different manuscripts. It's a landmark piece of fantasy. It was also intriguingly adapted by Will Vinton studios as a segment of the Claymation film The Adventures of Mark Twain, which we might show.

It's the 100th anniversary of The Beasts of Tarzan, one of the better Tarzan novels

And it's the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's Foundations of the Theory of General Relativity.

This year will also mark some important 50th anniversaries. 1966 saw the publication of

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

Sunjammer (AKA The Wind from the Sun)

Flowers for Algernon

We can Remember it for you Wholesale

Make Room! Make Room!

It's interesting that four of those formed the basis for films, although some of them were changed out of recognition.

It's also the 100th anniversary of the birth of Irwin Allen.
